LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Tropical Storm Alberto made landfall across Mexico this morning with wind speeds at 50 mph. The National Hurricane Center expects this system to diminish over the next 24 hours. The main impacts from Alberto will be felt across those areas in Mexico and will stay far enough south of Acadiana. Minor flooding is still possible in coastal regions as strong easterly winds could push tides 1 to 2′ feet above normal levels.
Attention will stay on the southern Gulf of Mexico for new tropical development next week. The NHC has a 50% chance for a tropical system to form. Overall, this looks similar to Alberto as the main impacts should stay well south of Louisiana.
