Is Nood the cheap, convenient alternative to laser we’ve all been looking for?

First a little about me: I’ve struggled with coarse body hair for years, and used to get teased relentlessly as a kid. I started shaving at 14, but have been searching for something gentler and less time-consuming ever since.

I tried professional laser hair removal treatments four years ago after hearing that it was the best way to permanently remove body hair. I had six sessions, but when I didn’t see close to the results I was promised, I stopped — I just couldn’t justify the cost! I reluctantly switched back to waxing for a few years—until I came across Nood and IPLhair removal.

What is Nood?

Nood’s flagship product, the Flasher 2.0, is an at-home treatment that uses IPL — or intense pulsed light — to target and destroy your hair follicles over time. Similar to laser hair removal, it aims to permanently reduce hair growth. The Flasher 2.0 retails for $189 and has a 90 day money back guarantee.

So, how does Nood compare to popular, but expensive, laser hair removal treatments? Let’s find out.

1. Convenience

Winner: Nood

Using the Flasher 2.0 at home is one of the best parts of this product (only behind seeing reduced hair growth after just two sessions!).

To start, I exfoliate my skin using The Revealer: that buffs away any dead skin cells and preps my skin for treatment. Next, I shave so the Flasher 2.0 can directly target my hair follicles. I can then start flashing from the comfort of my home.

The Flasher 2.0 has 7 levels (7 the most intense) and an Auto feature that automatically flashes each area as you work your way across the skin. Before I started, I tested the Flasher 2.0 on level 1 and increased from there based on how my skin responded (I was able to get to 7 with only minor discomfort).

I appreciate that the Flasher 2.0 is easy to use and I can sit and flash while watching TV or listening to apodcast. Having Nood right in my beauty drawer means I can flash any time that works for my schedule, and it cuts out the time and hassle of traveling to and from laser hair removal appointments.

2. Cost

Winner:Nood

Let’s be clear – professional laser hair removal treatments are expensive. You typically have to pay per session, with a la carte pricing for leg, underarm, bikini area, etc. Many clinics offer package deals, but the costs vary and are higher than Nood’s one time cost. Even their most premium option, the Noodist Pro Kit is $250. I paid at least $350 per laser session. Not to mention the cost of time to and from my appointments. When it comes to cost, it’s not even close — Nood is the clear winner at $189 for The Flasher 2.0.

3. Effectiveness and Time to Results

It's a Tie

There’s a reason that laser treatments have long been considered the most effective long term hair removal option — for most people it works well, and the results last a long time. Nood promises to be equally effective despite being a fraction of the cost.

Both methods require a series of treatments over several weeks or months to achieve the full effects. During my time getting laser treatments, I did seehair reduction and thinning, but didn’t come close to full hair removal. After completing the recommended series of 6 sessions (at $350 each!) I was told I would need a few more to get to fully smooth skin. Because of the cost, I just couldn’t justify going through more treatments for the same area. And after about a year, I noticed the hair starting to grow in thicker. That means periodic touch ups at that same price point.

After eight weeks, Nood has given me better results than laser. I was amazed to see that an at-home product could deliver better results than a high end professional treatment. Since I have Nood at home, any touch ups or areas that I may have missed can be easily targeted at any time — without having to budget for additional costs.

4. Comfort

Winner: Nood

Flashing with Nood left virtually no pain or soreness. It felt like a quick, heated zap but wasn’t painful or long lasting. Depending on the type of laser used for professional treatments, it can leave more of a sting. The laser treatments I tried in the past left me sore and red for about a day — not the most flattering look when I wanted to wear a dress right after treatment.

Another major point for Nood is that it allows for ultimate privacy — you’re able to do the treatments yourself in your own home. Laser hair removal often requires you to bare all (or a lot, depending on the area of treatment), and doesn’t offer the same level of comfort or privacy as doing it yourself.

Overall Winner:Nood

Now that I’ve completed my full 8-week treatment with Nood’s Flasher 2.0, I can confidently say it delivered results far beyond what I expected. At a fraction of the cost of laser, with the added convenience of at-home treatments, Nood is simply the better option for me. Nood also offers a “90 day No-Questions-Asked Money-back Guarantee”. If you’re considering booking expensive laser treatments, or are fed up with shaving, I recommend giving Nood a try.
