Body Butters are easy to make. They areone of the best products for skin. They moisturize, soothe and protect the skin. Body butters create soft, smooth and silky skin. The shelf life for this body butter is at leasttwo years. No preservative is necessary since it does not contain water.
I use organic ingredientsas much as possible.

Yield: approximately 12 ounces

3/4 cup solid cocoa butter (deodorized or with light scent of cocoa)

3/4 cup solid shea butter or cupuacu butter (I prefer deodorized)

5 ounces sunflower oil

8 drops vitamin E oil (optional)

1/2 teaspoon or 50 drops essential oil (lavender, rose geranium or mandarinessential oil is nice)

Directions To Make

  1. Melt cocoa butter and shea butter in double boiler. Remove from heat as soon as melted.
  2. Add sunflower oil, vitamin E oil and essential oils to mixture and mix well.
  3. Pour into containers and allow body butter to firm.

Whipped Body Butter Directions

  1. Melt cocoa butter and shea butter in double boiler. Remove from heat as soon as melted.
  2. Add sunflower oil, vitamin E oil and essential oils to mixture and mix well.
  3. Create a cold water bath: Place bowl with body butter mixture on top of a bowl with cold water and ice.
  4. When body butter starts to firm with a jelly-like consistency, whip with a beater for about 5-10 minutes.
  5. Spoon into containers.

Directions for Use
A small amount goes a long way. Apply to moist skin after a shower or bath or apply anytime. Massage extra body butter onto feet and cracked heals, elbows and hands. This butter can also be used on dry and coarse hair. Apply a small amount to moist or dry hair.

  • Hi Joan, I tried the whipped body butter, but it turned out very hard. Am i doing sth wrong with the temperatures? I used sweet almond oil instead of sunflower

    • This is a true body butter. For a softer butter, water must be added, therefore it is a cream containing a lot of butters. I will be releasing an ebook and online class on making a body butter creme. It is a wonderful soft formulation. It should be out by end of December or beginning of January.

  • I would love to try this recipe, but I have had poor results with shea butter in the past. It always turned the product grainy. How do you keep this from happening with your recipe? Thank you.

    • Hi Cindy, Joan’s body butter will not turn grainy. It never has in many years of making this recipe. In her experience, shea butter turns grainy when the shea butter is heated up and then not cooled down quickly. Hope this helps.
