Homemade pasta sauce recipe - Learn how to easy tomato pasta sauce at home with simple ingredients available. Step by step pictures for easy understanding.
It's a long time wish for me to make pasta sauce at home. I love pomodoro, arrabiata sauces from Pastamania and love the pasta sauce with carrots that they serve in IKEA.
I like IKEA sauce better as it has veggies and its sweet in taste too. So after browsing few recipes, I took an idea from this post and tweaked the recipe to suit my taste buds.
It came out great, tasted and smelt so good. So here is the recipe. It's very easy to make with simple ingredients you have in your pantry.
Now a days kids love pasta with sauce more, so why not make your own pasta sauce? Will be handy for your kids when they come back from school!

Servings 3 servings
Cup measurements
Ingredients
- 4 Red ripe tomato
- ¼ cup Tomato puree canned
- 1 Yellow onion
- 1 Carrot
- 1 tablespoon Brown sugar / white sugar
- 1 teaspoon Mixed Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon Crushed red pepper chilli flakes
- ¾ teaspoon Crushed black pepper
- 4 tablespoon Olive oil
- 4 Garlic
- ½ teaspoon Corn flour white
- Salt
Instructions
Boil enough water and drop the tomatoes and wait for a minute. Take out and cool down. Peel off the skin.
Blend this tomato and keep a side. Chop carrot into tiny bits. Chop garlic and onion finely. Heat a pan with oil and add garlic, give a quick stir taking care not to change the colour of garlic.
Add onion and give it a stir. Add the chopped carrots. Add a teaspoon of sugar.
Fry for 2 minutes in medium flame, add ground tomato and the canned tomato puree.
Transfer to a sauce pot. Add ¼ cup water and bring to boil. Add salt, remaining sugar and the Italian seasoning. Crush between your palm while adding. Add crushed red and black pepper.
Simmer for 5 minutes and lastly add corn flour dissolved in 2 tablespoon of water. Boil until oil separates and the sauce becomes shiny and thick.
Notes
- Use red ripe tomatoes. I used canned puree for the color.
- Carrots is optional, but I love the sweetness it adds to the sauce.
- Adding brown sugar or white sugar reduces the acidity of tomatoes.
- Add olive oil generously as mentioned.
- Corn flour is for thickening and its purely optional.

Really nice. Did we use the canned puree just for the color? How do we do without using it?

Yes it is good, I like it for such Italian recipes, fried rice, soup kind of recipes. Otherwise I prefer our regional oils just make sure I buy coldpress wood press oils.
