FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where are you located?

There is a map in the CONTACT USsection which shows exact location of the place.

What hours are you open?

Our working hours are flexible, but there is a rough outline of our business hours in the BOOKING section on the website.

How should I have my hair when I arrive for my appointment?

Hair must be at least chin/shoulder length - clean, brushed through and free of knots. Freshly wash your hair a day before your appointment or the day of your appointment, if your appointment time is not early in the morning. If your hair is naturally coarse, please blow-dry them straight.

How long does my hair need to be to have braids with extension?

Your hair must be at least chin/shoulder length. However, braids are not recommended for people with a tendency for alopecia or sensitive scalp, as braids can put more pressure on your scalp.

I have bleached and damaged hair, can I have braids?

Braids are for everyone! However, when your hair is naturally damaged it may not always be the best option to have tight braids or long term-braided hairstyles. One thing to keep in mind is that your hair is already damaged from being bleached or from having any other chemical treatments. While it may seem a safe option, there will be a fair bit of breakage, especially at the ends of your hair. However, don't be intimidated by this, take some time to moisturise your hair before appointment. Deep conditions and hot oil treatments are vital, so try to avoid all chemicals and hair styling tools if you want to grow healthy hair and have braids with extension. Please try not to use any chemicals at least a week before your appointment or wait until you have about half an inch of new hair growth before you have your hair braided.

How long will my braids last?

This is THE question! Braids last forever, so the real question is how long do they look good for? This will depend on the style you have chosen.

Loose braided styles:

You should get anywhere between 1-7 days.

Tight braids (braids at the top, at the sides, half front only):

Usually look good from 1-2 weeks.

Natural hair braiding:

The more braids you have the longer they last. For full head of small braids (cornrows) you should get anywhere between 1-2 weeks.

Jumbo braids:

You should get anywhere between 1-2 weeks

Cornrows:

With or without extensions (more than 4 braids) they stay neat from 1-3 weeks

Dutch braids:

With styles, such as braided pony, braided space buns, lemonade braids or half cornrows/half box braids stay neat for around 2-3 weeks.

Box braids (full head of braids):

Kids box braids usually last from 2 - 6 weeks. Adults get anywhere between 4 weeks to 2 months. This will depend on the thickness of braids you are after (medium/large). It also depends on how you look after your braids. Sleep is a major factor – if you roll around a lot then braids are going to get more fluffy and messier. Read below how to maintain your braids.

Kids braids (side braids/cornrows):

Side braids are more durable as less of your natural hair is being used therefore you should get anywhere between 1-2 weeks

How to maintain my braids so they last longer?

We all want to keep the braids pretty as long as we can while also avoiding lose frizzy hair. If you originally come with washed hair, this already will help your braids looking neat. I recommend using silk scarf, bandana, cut up pantyhose, tights or hair wraps. Just find what works best for you! You can use some hairspray to get away from your flyaways or I would personally recommend natural oil spray like olive oil, argan oil, coconut oil, etc and also edge control to help tame your baby hair for a sleek look.

How long does it take to do braids?

This varies depending on the braided hairstyle. Cornrows can take anything from 1-3 hrs, whereas full head of braids or box braids can take anything from 5-6 hrs depending on the size and length of braids.

Is my hair supposed to fall out after having braids?

When you are taking out braids after an extended period of time, you may notice that you are 'losing' your natural hair. Typically after 1-2 months of wearing braids, hair may be matted or there can be a massive amount of shed hair and build-up that needs to be removed. On a daily basis a person is losing on average 80 strands of hair per day, so the longer you have the braids in for the more shed hair you are going to have. Let me emphasise that this is a natural process that everyone goes through. You must remember that you are seeing all the hairs accumulated over the life of your style all at once, but don't freak out guys, have a look at this 6 min video which perfectly explains this in depth.

How to safely remove braids (box braids) without damage or loss?

You need to removebraidscarefully and slowly to avoid damaging your own hair. It can be time-consuming , especially after wearing box braids. First of all, you need to cut the extensions off - one braid at a time just 2 inches below where your natural hair ends. Next, unbraid the hair and when you have taken all extensions out, detangle you natural hair. This is the part where you may experience a lot of shedding while detangling, so don't be alarmed! It's possible that your roots have begun to mat together, especially after wearing box braids - gently pull these sections apart by using your fingers. Next step would be to use some oil spray or leave in conditioner to help you get the matt out- spray it on your roots and comb from the bottom and work your way up until the section is thoroughly detangled. If you decide to not detangle all your hair, particularly roots it can lead to matting and hair breakage. Section completed hair out of the way before moving to the next one. Once all the hair has been detangled, it's time to cleanse your hair and scalp - gently massage your scalp by adding shampoo. You'll probably see even more shed hair. After shampooing, you can use a regular rinse-out conditioner, but a deep conditioning treatment is much better since it's been a while your loose hair was drenched in moisture. That's you all done - but please, give your scalp and hairline some time to breath and adjust to not holding onto the extra weight. It's a good idea to wait at least 2 weeks before getting your next set of extensions.
