Electrolysis - Fast Facts (2024)

Here are some important facts about electrolysis that I think highlight why it is your best option for hair removal & your ONLY option for PERMANENT hair removal! Give these a read & then feel free to contact me with any questions!

  • The results of electrolysis are permanent because of hair follicle destruction

  • Electrolysis is performed by inserting a very fine probe into the hair follicle & creating a heat sensation at the base of the follicle. This heat sensation cuts off the blood supply to the hair, causing it to be unable to grow back, EVER

  • Unlike laser hair removal, electrolysis is backed by the F.D.A. as a permanent solution

  • With electrolysis, you will need multiple follow-up appointments for the best results

  • As for pain, electrolysis has the added advantage of allowing you to choose just how painful it is. Electrolysis machines have base settings for all parts of the body. You and your Certified Electrologist can work together to find a setting that is effective but also works within your individual pain tolerance

  • Unlike laser hair removal, electrolysis may be used anywhere on the body

  • With electrolysis, minor side effects are common, but they tend to go away within a day

  • The most common reactions after electrolysis treatments are slight redness from skin irritation along with some possible tenderness and swelling

  • Possible severe side effects after electrolysis treatment include infection from bacterial transfer (touching your skin after treatment), unsterile needles used during the procedure (ensure your electrologist uses a new disposable needle for each treatment/client), as well as scars (possibly from an electrologist without adequate training)

  • You should be sure to do your research to find a Certified Electrologist that is licensed by your city & inspected by your local health authority to greatly minimize any risks

  • With electrolysis treatments, once the hair is gone, you will not need any more "maintenance" treatments

  • With electrolysis, the amount you pay depends on the size of the area being treated and the number of follow-ups required

  • Electrologists usually charge for the amount of time that the treatment takes, ie 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, etc.

  • With electrolysis, over time, your visits will get shorter & shorter & become further & further apart

  • With electrolysis, you will likely end up having more sessions than with laser therapy, but the results with electrolysis will be permanent
